Instructions
SELECTING OBJECTS: Choose 8-10 objects of varied textures, weights, and temperatures — wood, metal, fabric, natural materials. Ensure all are large enough to prevent choking and have no sharp edges.
POSITIONING BABY: Seat baby comfortably where they can reach the basket easily. A bumbo seat or supported sitting position on the floor works well.
OBSERVING CLOSELY: Watch which objects attract attention. Notice the type of grasp used — whole-hand rake, palmar grasp, or emerging pincer. This tells you about motor development.
NARRATING GENTLY: Describe what baby does: 'You picked up the spoon — it feels cold!' 'You're holding the pine cone — it's bumpy!' Keep voice calm and encouraging.
ALLOWING MOUTHING: Babies explore through their mouths. This is expected and important. Ensure all objects are clean and safe for mouthing. Supervise closely.
INTRODUCING NEW ITEMS: Rotate objects weekly to maintain interest. Seasonal items (autumn leaves, smooth pebbles) keep the basket fresh and engaging.
