Instructions
STARTING WITHOUT ROPE: Practise the step-hop skip movement without a rope. 'Step on one foot, hop! Step on the other foot, hop!' Get the rhythm first.
INTRODUCING THE ROPE: Start with rope on the ground — jump over it. Then swing over head and jump. 'Rope over, jump! Rope over, jump!'
USING SONGS: Skipping rhymes give rhythm and purpose: 'Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around...' Singing helps coordinate the timing.
LONG ROPE GAMES: Two adults turn a long rope while children run in and jump. This is a separate skill — timing the entry is the challenge.
