CREATING SIMPLE MAPS: Use photographs or drawings of landmarks. 'Start at the tree. Walk to the bench. Look under the slide!' Keep maps visual, not abstract.
INTRODUCING MAP SKILLS: 'This picture shows the tree — can you see the tree? Walk to it!' Gradually introduce directional arrows and symbols.
VARYING ROUTES: Create different maps each time. Include routes that require walking, running, climbing, and crawling.
ADDING CHALLENGES: 'At each checkpoint, do 5 star jumps before collecting your sticker!' Physical challenges at checkpoints add fitness.
