MODELLING DETAIL: Draw alongside children, adding details: 'I'm adding windows to my house. How many windows does your house have?' Show how to add detail to basic shapes.
ENCOURAGING WITHIN-LINE COLOURING: 'Colour carefully — try to stay inside the lines!' This develops the precise motor control needed for letter sizing.
VARYING PRESSURE: 'Press hard for dark colours, gently for light!' Controlling pencil pressure is an important fine motor skill.
VALUING EFFORT: 'You spent so long on that drawing — look at all the detail!' Sustained concentration is as valuable as the finished product.
