Instructions
1. Pick up Maria's pencil. 2. 'Whose pencil is this? Maria's pencil.' 3. 'The apostrophe-s shows it belongs to Maria.' 4. Write: Maria's pencil, the dog's bone, the teacher's desk. 5. Practice with classroom objects. 6. Sort possessive vs plural: dogs (more than one) vs dog's (belonging to the dog). 7. Write possessive sentences.
Educator tip
The possessive/plural distinction is tricky. Focus on meaning: 'Does this word mean more than one, or does it mean belonging to?' If belonging, add the apostrophe.
