Materials
- Cardboard shapes with punched holes
- Yarn with taped ends
- Scotch tape
- Hole puncher
Instructions
Children lace yarn through holes punched around shape outlines, developing dexterity while exploring shapes.
Educator tip
Tape the yarn end firmly to create a stiff 'needle' that threads easily through holes.
Assessment
Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Teacher observation of student's ability to use fine motor skills to lace and name the shape being laced.
