Instructions
STARTING WITH DOUGH: Roll three playdough sausages. 'Cross the right one over the middle. Now the left one over the new middle. Right, left, right, left!' Dough stays in place while learning the pattern.
PROGRESSING TO RIBBON: Secure three ribbons to a table edge with tape. 'Now try the same pattern — right over middle, left over middle.' Having one end secured helps enormously.
TEACHING THE RHYTHM: 'Outside in, outside in' — a rhythmic chant helps children remember the pattern. Sing it as they plait.
USING THE PRODUCT: Plaited bracelets, bookmarks, and hair braids give purpose to the practice. 'You made a friendship bracelet!'
