Instructions
ASSESSING READINESS: Balance bikes are the best preparation for cycling. If a child can glide on a balance bike, they're ready to try pedals.
REMOVING STABILISERS: Hold the back of the seat while the child pedals. Gradually reduce support. 'You're doing it! I'm barely holding on!'
TEACHING BRAKING: 'Squeeze the brakes gently to slow down. Squeeze harder to stop.' Practise stopping before building speed.
ROAD SAFETY: Even in the playground, teach: 'Look left, look right. Signal when you turn. Stop at the crossing.' Early road safety habits.
