Materials
- Large unbreakable mirror
- Simple helper props (hat, badge)
Instructions
1. Sit baby in front of mirror.
2. Place a soft helper hat on baby's head.
3. Point to reflection: 'Look! You're a firefighter!'
4. Wave, smile, and make faces together.
Educator tip
Tap the mirror gently to draw attention to the reflection.
Assessment
Observe and note: sustained engagement, sensory responses, early vocalisations, and attachment behaviours. Document using the Characteristics of Effective Learning framework (Playing and Exploring). Observe visual attention, smiling at reflection, and self-recognition signs.
