Hello Helper Puppets

Puppet play encourages vocalization and social interaction.

Objectives

• Interact with simple helper finger or hand puppets

Materials

• Finger puppets of helpers
• Simple hand puppets

Instructions

1. Introduce a puppet with a friendly voice.

2. Have puppet greet baby by name.

3. Let puppet 'kiss' or 'tickle' baby gently.

4. Encourage baby to touch or babble at puppet.

Educator tip

Use a consistent voice for each helper puppet to build recognition.

Assessment

Observe and note: sustained engagement, sensory responses, early vocalisations, and attachment behaviours. Document using the Characteristics of Effective Learning framework (Playing and Exploring). Watch for reaching, vocalizing, and social smiling.
