Objectives
- Put on simple helper costume pieces and name the role
Materials
- Firefighter hat
- Doctor coat
- Chef apron
- Full-length mirror
Instructions
1. Display 3-4 costume pieces.
2. Help children put on one piece.
3. Ask: 'Who are you now?'
4. Take photos of children in costumes.
5. Create a class 'When I Grow Up' display.
Educator tip
Velcro closures make dressing easier for this age group.
Assessment
Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Observe ability to name helper role and describe what that helper does using 2-3 word phrases.
