Helper Faces

Recognising faces of community helpers builds early social awareness and vocabulary.

Instructions

1. Show large, clear pictures of community helpers one at a time.

2. Name each helper slowly and clearly.

3. Encourage babies to point or reach toward pictures.

4. Repeat names and make simple sounds (siren, bell).

Educator tip

Use exaggerated facial expressions and voice changes for each helper to maintain attention.

Assessment

Observe and note: sustained engagement, sensory responses, early vocalisations, and attachment behaviours. Document using the Characteristics of Effective Learning framework (Playing and Exploring). Observe eye tracking, pointing, and any vocalization attempts.
