Materials
- Soft maracas
- Bells on ribbons
- Shaker eggs with helper stickers
Instructions
1. Offer one shaker at a time.
2. Demonstrate shaking while singing.
3. Encourage baby to shake along.
4. Praise any attempts at shaking or banging.
Educator tip
Make siren sounds or 'ding-ding' fire bell sounds as babies shake.
Assessment
Observe and note: sustained engagement, sensory responses, early vocalisations, and attachment behaviours. Document using the Characteristics of Effective Learning framework (Playing and Exploring). Observe grasp, shake motion, and rhythmic attempts.
