Objectives
- Touch and explore fabric samples representing helper uniforms
Materials
- Fabric swatches (smooth scrubs, rough firefighter fabric, shiny badges)
- Texture board
Instructions
1. Offer fabric pieces one at a time.
2. Guide baby's hand to touch and describe textures.
3. Name the helper who wears each material.
4. Allow crumpling and free exploration.
Educator tip
Narrate constantly: 'This is smooth like a doctor's coat. Feel it!'
Assessment
Observe and note: sustained engagement, sensory responses, early vocalisations, and attachment behaviours. Document using the Characteristics of Effective Learning framework (Playing and Exploring). Observe tactile exploration, facial expressions, and preferences.
