Photo Talk
To stimulate spoken language by discussing photographs of familiar people, places, and experiences.

Materials
- Laminated photos of children's families and experiences
- Photo albums or display boards
- Comfortable one-to-one space
Instructions
Sit alongside the child with photos spread out. Point to one: 'Oh look! Who is that? That's you! What were you doing?' Wait patiently for a response.
If the child is quiet, narrate for them: 'You were playing in the water tray! You were pouring and splashing. You looked so happy!' Then pause to see if they add anything.
Ask simple questions: 'Who is this? Where were you? What happened?' Build to 'How did you feel?' as confidence grows.
Use family photos to bridge home and nursery: 'Is that your dog? What's your dog called? What does your dog like to do?' This validates their home life.
