Dressing Up Chatterbox
To develop vocabulary for clothing, body parts, and descriptive language through dressing up play.

Materials
- Dressing up clothes reflecting various occupations and cultures
- Full-length mirror
- Accessories (hats, bags, scarves, shoes)
Instructions
Join in the play: 'Ooh, you've put on a hat! It's a big, red hat! You look like a firefighter! Where's the fire?' Use clothing as a springboard for imaginative talk.
Model self-description: 'I'm wearing a sparkly scarf and a big hat. I'm going to a party!' Encourage children: 'What are you wearing? Tell me about your outfit!'
Name clothing items clearly: 'Those are Wellington boots! Wellies keep your feet dry. When do we wear wellies?' Connect vocabulary to purpose.
Use the mirror: 'Look at yourself! What can you see? You're wearing a blue cape! What does your cape help you do?' Build narrative through character creation.
