Nursery Rhyme Prop Box
To support memorisation and comprehension of nursery rhymes through multi-sensory prop engagement.

Materials
- Prop boxes for specific rhymes (e.g., star wand for Twinkle Twinkle, toy spider for Incy Wincy)
- Illustrated nursery rhyme cards
- Simple percussion instruments
Instructions
Show a prop and ask: 'Which song does this belong to?' Hold up the toy spider—'Who knows this little fellow? What song does he sing?'
Sing slowly with clear pauses for children to fill in words: 'Incy Wincy Spider climbed up the… [pause]… spout!' Celebrate when they supply words.
Use props to aid comprehension: 'The rain came DOWN and washed the spider OUT' — move the spider to match the words.
Over time, let children choose props and lead the singing. Support them but let them take ownership.
