Bus Stop Role Play

Materials
- Chairs arranged in bus formation
- Steering wheel or plate
- Ticket cards and simple money
- Bus stop sign
Instructions
Set up the 'bus' together and take the first turn as driver: 'All aboard! Where would you like to go? One ticket to the park, please! Beep beep, off we go!' Model the transactional language.
Encourage passengers to request stops: 'Ding ding! Next stop please! Who's getting off here? Where are you going?' Prompt with questions if children are quiet.
Introduce journey narration: 'Look out the window! I can see shops… and a dog… what can you see?' This builds imaginative descriptive language.
Let children take over as driver. Support from the passenger seat: 'Excuse me, driver, does this bus go to the zoo?' Encourage them to respond in role.
