Blanket Den Whispering

Materials
- Blankets draped over a frame or table
- Cushions and soft lighting (fairy lights)
- Favourite books and soft toys
- Torch
Instructions
Create the den with children: 'Shall we make a cosy den? Let's drape this blanket over the table! Now it's our secret hiding place!'
Enter the den and speak softly: 'It's so cosy in here! Shall I tell you a secret? I saw a robin in the garden today! Do you have any secrets to tell me?'
Use the torch for atmosphere: 'Look, the torch makes shadows! What shape is that shadow? Can you make a shadow with your hand?'
For reluctant speakers, the den's intimacy can unlock language. Sit together quietly at first—some children just need companionable silence before they're ready to talk.
