- Unit: EYFS Communication & Language
- Learning area: Communication and Language
- Level: EYFS 2-3

- Sequences familiar routine events
- Uses time words (first, then, next)
- Relates activity to personal experience
- Follows and gives simple instructions
Materials
- Soft toys and dolls
- Bedtime props (toothbrush, pyjamas, blanket, story book, pillow)
- Sequence cards showing bedtime routine steps
Instructions
Lay out the bedtime props and ask: 'Teddy is very tired! What does Teddy need to do before bed? What comes first?' Let children suggest the order.
Use sequence cards: 'Look at these pictures. Which one comes first? Bath first! Then what? Pyjamas! Then teeth, then story, then sleep!' Point to each card.
Act it out together: 'First, let's give Teddy a bath. Splash splash! Now, can you put on his pyjamas? What comes next? Brush his teeth!'
Connect to their lives: 'Is that what you do at bedtime? Do you have a bath first or brush your teeth first? Everyone's bedtime is a little bit different!'
