Give a doll a voice: 'Hello! I'm the mummy! I'm going to make breakfast. What shall I cook? Porridge? Yummy!' Invite the child to give their doll a voice too.
Create scenarios: 'The baby doll is crying! Oh no! What does baby need? Is baby hungry? Tired? Can you help the baby feel better?'
Model dialogue between characters: 'Mummy says: time for bed! Child says: I don't want to go to bed! Mummy says: you can have one more story.' Children relate to familiar situations.
Follow the child's lead: 'Where is your person going? What are they doing? Who are they talking to?' Support without directing the narrative.
