Instructions
Partner with a younger classroom for regular mentoring sessions. Train older students on mentoring skills: patience, encouragement, age-appropriate expectations. Conduct mentoring activities: reading together, playing games, completing crafts. Reflect on mentoring experiences and growth.
Educator tip
Prepare older students for mentoring challenges—younger children may not listen, may have meltdowns, may need lots of patience.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe mentoring skills, patience demonstrated, and quality of cross-age relationships.
