- Framework: EYFS
- Unit: EYFS Champions of Character
- Learning area: Communication and Language
- Level: EYFS Reception
Objectives
- Identify issues they care about
- Develop advocacy messages
- Take advocacy action
Materials
- Advocacy examples
- Persuasive writing materials
- Action planning tools
Instructions
Explore what advocacy is: speaking up about things that matter. Identify issues children care about: fairness, animal welfare, environment, kindness at school. Develop advocacy messages using persuasive language. Take age-appropriate advocacy action: writing letters, creating posters, making presentations, organising campaigns.
Educator tip
Help children focus on issues they can influence rather than overwhelming global problems.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe issue identification, message quality, and action taken.
