Instructions
Introduce philosophy as thinking deeply about big questions. Present age-appropriate prompts: What makes something fair? Is it ever okay to lie? What does it mean to be a good person? Practise philosophical dialogue protocols: building on others' ideas, asking clarifying questions, respectfully disagreeing. Document thinking in philosophy journals.
Educator tip
There are no 'right answers' in philosophy—value the thinking process over reaching conclusions.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe dialogue quality, reasoning depth, and respect for different perspectives.
