Legacy Planning

Thinking about legacy helps children see their lives in a broader context and commit to long-term character development.

Objectives

Materials

Instructions

Introduce the concept of legacy: what people remember about you after you're gone. Brainstorm what they want to be remembered for: kindness? Helping others? Being brave? Fairness? Write legacy statements: 'I want to be remembered as someone who...' Plan actions that build toward that legacy. Create vision boards representing their desired character legacy.

Educator tip

This isn't about achievement or fame—focus on character qualities and how they treated others.

Assessment

Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe reflection quality, connection between values and legacy, and action planning.
