Community Problem Solving

Addressing real community problems develops civic engagement and efficacy.

Objectives

Materials

Instructions

Identify genuine problems in the classroom, school, or neighborhood community. Research the problems to understand causes and stakeholders. Develop solution proposals and present to decision-makers. Implement chosen solutions and track impact.

Educator tip

Focus on problems children can actually influence—this builds efficacy rather than frustration.

Assessment

Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe problem analysis, solution quality, and action implementation.
