MODELLING MOVEMENTS: Show big arm movements: 'Swirl your ribbon round and round! Swoosh it up high! Sweep it down low!' Make movements large and dramatic.
CROSSING THE MIDLINE: Encourage sweeping the ribbon from one side of the body to the other. This crossing-the-midline movement is crucial for later reading and writing development.
VARYING TEMPO: Use slow music for gentle flowing movements and fast music for vigorous shaking. 'The music is slow — flow like a river. Now it's fast — shake, shake, shake!'
FOLLOWING CHILDREN'S LEAD: Let them invent their own ribbon dances. 'Show me your special move!' Value their creativity.
