Instructions
POSITIONING YOURSELF: Stand where you can catch if needed but don't hover. Your calm presence gives confidence. Anxious hovering creates anxiety.
ALLOWING RISK: Appropriate risk-taking is essential for development. If a child wants to climb higher, assess the situation but don't automatically say no.
TEACHING TECHNIQUE: 'Three points of contact — two hands and a foot, or two feet and a hand.' Show how to grip firmly and place feet carefully.
SUPPORTING DESCENT: Getting down is often harder than going up! Teach safe descent: 'Turn around, feet first, hold on tight, step down.'
