Identifying sounds connects auditory learning to community awareness.

Objectives

• Identify and imitate 3-4 sounds made by community helper vehicles or tools

Materials

• Sound recordings (siren, bell, horn)
• Helper pictures

Instructions

1. Play a sound recording.

2. Ask: 'What helper makes that sound?'

3. Show the matching picture.

4. Practise making the sound together.

5. Move like the helper while making sounds.

Educator tip

Keep volume low and watch for children sensitive to loud sounds.

Assessment

Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Note which sounds child can identify and imitate correctly.
