Objectives
- Create a simple map showing where community helpers work
Materials
- Large paper
- Crayons
- Stickers of buildings
- Toy cars
Instructions
1. Discuss where helpers work (hospital, fire station, school).
2. Draw roads on large paper together.
3. Add buildings with stickers or drawings.
4. Use toy cars to 'drive' between locations.
5. Discuss how helpers travel to help people.
Educator tip
Add simple labels to buildings to introduce environmental print.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe spatial placement of buildings and ability to describe locations.
