Objectives
- Sort helper-themed objects by colour into matching containers
Materials
- Red, blue, and white items
- Three coloured buckets
- Helper items (red fire truck, blue police car, white ambulance)
Instructions
1. Introduce the three colours and matching helpers.
2. Hold up an item: 'What colour is this?'
3. Have children place in correct bucket.
4. Count items in each bucket together.

Assessment
Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Record sorting accuracy (percentage correct) and colour naming ability.
