Water Play Commentary
To develop action and descriptive vocabulary through narrated water play exploration.

Materials
- Water tray or table
- Funnels, sieves, jugs, cups of varying sizes
- Boats, ducks, and water wheels
- Waterproof aprons
Instructions
Narrate children's actions: 'You're pouring the water through the funnel! Look—it comes out the bottom! You're filling up the cup. It's nearly full… nearly… it's overflowing!'
Introduce action words: 'You can pour, splash, drip, squirt, fill, and empty! Which one are you doing? You're squirting! The water is squirting out!'
Ask questions that extend thinking: 'What happens when you pour water through the sieve? Where does it go? Why doesn't it stay in?'
Compare quantities: 'Which cup holds more water? The big one or the little one? Let's find out! Pour into the big one first…'
