Colour Mixing Chatter
To develop descriptive language and prediction skills through colour mixing exploration.

Materials
- Clear cups or trays for mixing
- Primary colour paints or food colouring
- Pipettes, spoons, and mixing sticks
- White paper for testing colours
Instructions
Begin with wonder: 'I have red water and yellow water. What do you think will happen if we mix them together?' Accept all predictions warmly.
Narrate the process: 'You're pouring the red in… now the yellow… look! It's changing! What colour is it now?' Give children time to respond.
Model descriptive language: 'It's a bright, sunny orange! It looks like a sunset!' Encourage children to describe: 'What does it look like to you?'
Ask 'What shall we try next?' to extend the investigation and keep language flowing.
