Using puppets supports expressive retelling and comprehension.

Objectives

• Students will retell a story using puppets.

Materials

• Circus puppets
• Puppet theater
• Storybook

Instructions

1. Read a circus story.

2. Assign puppet characters to students.

3. Practise retelling with puppets.

4. Perform for the class or other groups.

Educator tip

Encourage different voices for different characters.

Assessment

Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Evaluate retelling accuracy and expression.
