Geometry Circus Shapes
Exploring 2D and 3D shapes builds spatial reasoning.
- Framework: EYFS
- Unit: EYFS Circus
- Learning area: Numeracy
- Level: EYFS Reception
Objectives
- Students will identify and create geometric shapes.
- Students will compare shape attributes.
Materials
- Shape blocks
- Construction materials
- Shape attribute cards
- Grid paper
Instructions
1. Identify shapes in circus images (spheres, cones, triangles).
2. Build shapes with blocks or playdough.
3. Compare attributes: sides, corners, faces.
4. Create a geometric circus scene.
Educator tip
Connect to real circus items: tent cone, ring sphere.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Evaluate shape identification and attribute comparison.
