Objectives

Materials

• Pattern blocks
• Circus train template
• Coloured paper
• Stickers

Instructions

1. Show a circus train with a colour pattern on the cars.

2. Help students identify the pattern.

3. Students continue the pattern on their own train.

4. Create new patterns and share with peers.

Educator tip

Start with AB patterns and progress to ABC patterns.

Assessment

Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Check pattern recognition and creation.
