Objectives

Materials

• Circus figurines
• Number cards
• Addition mats
• Whiteboards

Instructions

1. Present story problems: '3 clowns were in the ring, 2 more came. How many now?'

2. Use figurines to act out and solve.

3. Write number sentences.

4. Create own circus addition stories.

Encourage students to draw their solutions.

Assessment

Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Evaluate addition accuracy and problem representation.
