Circus Counting

Counting familiar objects builds numeracy skills and connects maths to real themes.

Objectives

• Students will count circus-themed items and match to numbers.

Materials

• Counting cards
• Circus props or stickers
• Number chart

Instructions

1. Prepare cards with pictures (3 elephants, 5 clowns).

2. Ask students to count and place the correct number.

3. Record group tallies or graph results.

Turn it into a game—'Find 4 things with stripes.'

Assessment

Observe and note: sustained engagement, sensory responses, early vocalisations, and attachment behaviours. Document using the Characteristics of Effective Learning framework (Playing and Exploring). Check number accuracy and one-to-one correspondence.
