Balloon Experiment
Experimenting with air builds scientific inquiry skills.
- Framework: EYFS
- Unit: EYFS Circus
- Learning area: Understanding the World
- Level: EYFS Reception
Objectives
- Students will observe and predict balloon behaviour.
- Students will explore properties of air.
Materials
- Balloons
- String
- Straws
- Tape
- Prediction sheets
Instructions
1. Make predictions: What will happen when we let the air out?
2. Test predictions with balloon rockets on a string.
3. Record observations.
4. Discuss what makes balloons move.
Educator tip
Emphasize the scientific process: predict, test, observe.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Evaluate prediction and observation skills.
