Materials
- Forgiveness exploration materials
- Process guides
- Reflection activities
Instructions
Explore what forgiveness IS: letting go of anger and resentment. What it ISN'T: forgetting, saying it was okay, becoming vulnerable again. Discuss why forgiveness helps US more than the person who hurt us. Practise the forgiveness process: acknowledging hurt, deciding to let go, wishing the other person well (even if from a distance). Reflect on how forgiveness feels.
Educator tip
Never pressure children to forgive—especially for serious harm. This is about understanding the concept and choosing it when ready.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe understanding of forgiveness concept, process practice, and personal reflection.
