Growth Portfolio Assembly
Portfolios provide tangible evidence of character growth and opportunities for meta-reflection.
- Framework: EYFS
- Unit: EYFS Champions of Character
- Learning area: Visual and Creative Arts
- Level: EYFS Reception
Objectives
- Document character growth over time
- Curate evidence of development
- Present growth to others
Materials
- Portfolio materials
- Curation guides
- Presentation preparation
Instructions
Introduce the portfolio as a curated collection showing character growth. Gather evidence throughout the year: reflections, work samples, goal tracking, photos, awards. Curate selections that best show growth in different areas. Write reflections explaining what each piece shows about development. Present portfolios to families, celebrating growth rather than achievement.
Educator tip
Emphasize growth over perfection. The best portfolios show where children started and how far they've come, not just final products.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe curation quality, reflection depth, and presentation effectiveness.
