Instructions

Imagine yourself in the future—older, wiser, with stronger character. Write a letter TO that future self about your character journey. Include: what you've learned, goals you're working on, commitments you're making, hopes for your future character. Seal the letter to be opened later (perhaps at the end of the year or next year). Reflect on how present choices affect future self.

Educator tip

Actually save and return these letters—the experience of receiving your own past message is powerful.

Assessment

Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe letter content, commitment quality, and connection between present and future.
