Level 3 promotes critical thinking and structured analysis. 'Spanish Counting Hide & Seek' strengthens global literacy and respectful cultural awareness.

Objectives

Instructions

Materials

- Ten laminated cards featuring numbers 1 to 10 in Spanish.

- A set of small, distinct objects such as plastic animals or blocks.

- A clear, open indoor or outdoor play space.

- A timer or stopwatch.

- A clipboard and observational checklist for the teacher.

Learning Objectives

- Students will demonstrate the ability to count from 1 to 10 in Spanish.

- Students will practise gross motor skills by running, searching, and retrieving items.

- Students will follow multi-step directions within a group setting.

- Students will demonstrate spatial awareness while navigating the play area.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Gather the students in a circle and review the Spanish numbers 1 through 10 using the laminated cards.

2. Lead the group in a choral repetition of the numbers to ensure pronunciation is clear.

3. Explain that you will hide ten objects around the room while the students cover their eyes.

4. Instruct the students to count aloud in Spanish as you hide the items.

5. Once the counting is finished, give the signal to begin the search.

6. Encourage students to work together to find all ten items.

7. As each item is found, have the student bring it to the centre and announce the number in Spanish.

8. Once all items are collected, lead the group in a final count of the objects in Spanish to confirm the total.

9. Rotate roles so that a student can assist in hiding the items for a second round.

Educator Tip

To increase the challenge for advanced learners, ask them to identify the objects by colour or shape in Spanish as they return them to the centre. If a student struggles with the sequence, provide a visual number line on the wall to serve as a reference point during the search.

Assessment

- Observe if the student can accurately recite the number sequence in Spanish without prompts.

- Note the student ability to locate hidden items while maintaining safe movement in the space.

- Record whether the student can correctly match the physical object to the corresponding Spanish number word.

Assessment

Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Rubric: reasoning, accuracy, clarity, independence.
