Grammar Box 1 — The Noun with Full Presentation

The Noun is the pyramid — ancient, heavy, stable, naming the world. This impressionistic story belongs to the Fourth Great Lesson, Communication in Signs. The black triangle is the control — every noun in every sentence calls for one. Indirect aim: grammatical analysis, etymology, precision in naming.

Objectives

Materials

Instructions

1. Gather two to four children for the Noun story. 2. Place the large black triangle on the mat: 'This symbol has lived for thousands of years. It is the pyramid — stable, ancient, naming things that last. The noun names every thing'. 3. Introduce Grammar Box 1: sentences made only of nouns. 4. Child reads a sentence strip: 'dog, cat, tree, sun'. 5. Places a small black triangle over each noun. 6. Draws command cards: 'Bring me three nouns that name people'. 7. Writes original sentences; places symbols. 8. Discusses: can you tell a story with only nouns? What is missing?

Educator tip

The impressionistic presentation sticks for life. Do it sitting on the floor with a single lamp if you can — theatre matters in elementary. Save the classroom triangle for only this purpose.

Assessment

Observe the child's retention of the pyramid story, accuracy of symbol placement, and original writing that uses nouns with intentional precision.
