- Learning area: Physical Development
- Level: EYFS 3-4
Objectives

- Completes simple sewing projects
Materials
- Large plastic needles
- Thick wool or yarn
- Pre-punched card shapes
- Hessian or binca fabric
- Embroidery frames
Instructions
THREADING THE NEEDLE: Help children thread wool through the large eye. Wrapping tape around the wool end creates a stiff point.
TEACHING IN-AND-OUT: 'Push the needle through from the back. Pull the wool through. Now push from the front.' Simple running stitch.
USING PUNCHED CARDS: Pre-punched cards with wide holes are easier than fabric. Shape outlines (stars, hearts) give a satisfying result.
PROGRESSING TO FABRIC: Binca (aida cloth) with its visible grid and holes is ideal for early sewing on fabric. Stretch in an embroidery frame.
