Instructions
PROVIDING MATERIALS: Set out a selection of den-building materials. Let children choose what to use and how. Resist directing the build.
SUPPORTING PHYSICALLY: Hold blankets while children peg them, steady crates while children stack. Be the extra pair of hands without taking over.
ASKING QUESTIONS: 'How can you make it stay up? What could you put on top to keep the rain out? Is it big enough to sit inside?'
MANAGING SAFETY: Ensure structures are stable enough to be safe. Teach: 'Test it before you go inside — push gently. Does it wobble?'
