PREPARING FOR CHANGE: 'Soon you'll be moving to the big class! That's exciting AND a bit scary. Let's make a special box to help you feel ready and brave.'
FILLING THE BOX: Include: a photo of current friends, a drawing of themselves, a comfort item, information about the new place, a letter from current teacher. Each item has emotional purpose.
DISCUSSING FEELINGS: 'It's normal to feel nervous about new things. Your box has things to remind you that you're loved, you're brave, and you can do hard things.'
VISITING NEW PLACES: Arrange visits to the new classroom/school. 'Let's go see your new room! You can meet your new teacher! Then it won't feel so strange.'
