INTRODUCING GRADUALLY: Some babies love mess immediately; others are cautious. Respect this: 'You can just watch. You don't have to touch it.' Never force hands into materials.

MODELLING ENJOYMENT: Get messy yourself! 'Look, I'm squishing the jelly! Squelch! It's cold and wobbly!' Your enthusiasm is contagious but never pressuring.

CELEBRATING BRAVERY: When cautious babies make contact: 'You touched it! You were so brave! What does it feel like? Is it squishy?' Acknowledge the courage it takes.

OFFERING TOOLS: If direct touch is too much, offer spoons, brushes, or containers: 'You could use the spoon to scoop it if you don't want to touch it.' This still provides the experience.
