CREATING COSY SPACES: Set up small, enclosed spaces with soft furnishings. These aren't hiding places—they're regulation spaces. Babies naturally seek enclosed spaces when overstimulated.

RESPECTING RETREAT: When babies crawl into cosy spaces, respect this. Don't immediately try to engage them. They may need sensory downtime: 'You've found the cosy corner. That looks peaceful.'

JOINING IF INVITED: If babies gesture or look for you, join them in the den: 'Shall I come in too? It's lovely and quiet in here, isn't it?' Follow their lead about interaction level.

OBSERVING REGULATION: Watch how babies use cosy spaces. Are they retreating after busy times? Do they emerge calmer? This tells you about their regulation needs and capacities.
