Instructions
READING THE STORY: Share 'The Colour Monster' regularly. Discuss each emotion and its colour: 'Yellow is happy! When do you feel happy? Red is angry—everyone feels angry sometimes.'
DAILY CHECK-IN: Each morning, ask children to choose a colour: 'How are you feeling today? Pick the colour that matches.' Some children may pick multiple colours—that's insightful!
SORTING ACTIVITIES: Provide emotion cards to sort into colour jars: 'Is this a happy feeling or a sad feeling? Where does it go?' This concrete sorting develops abstract emotional understanding.
REFERENCING THROUGHOUT THE DAY: 'I can see you're feeling a bit blue today. That's okay. Do you want to talk about it, or shall we find something to help?'
